Application overview
How Koyo bearings serve Industrial Gearboxes
Industrial gearboxes and speed reducers carry their input, intermediate and output shafts on roller and ball bearings. These bearings run under combined radial and axial loads, shock loads and continuous oil-bath lubrication. Rebuild shops and assembly lines most often go wrong on the full suffix, the clearance class and which shaft position each bearing sits in.
- Match the full suffix, including the clearance class (for example C3) and cage material, to the original gearbox execution rather than only the bore, OD and width.
- On each shaft, keep floating and locating bearings separate, because cylindrical roller designs (NU, NJ, NUP) are not interchangeable between those positions.
- Order tapered roller bearings as matched cone and cup sets, and confirm the preload or end-play setting the gearbox maker specifies.
- Use spherical roller bearings on heavily loaded output shafts where housing deflection or misalignment is expected.
